David and Goliath (Short Version)

The Philistines gathered their armies for battle. A champion named Goliath came out from the Philistine camp. He was over nine feet tall. He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, "Choose a man and have him come down to me. If he is able to fight and kill me, then we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him, you will become our subjects."

When Saul and all Israel heard these words, they were terrified. David, the youngest son of Jesse, came to the camp. When he heard Goliath's defiance, David asked, "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?"

David told Saul, "Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them." He took his staff and chose five smooth stones from the stream. He approached the Philistine with his sling. Goliath despised him, but David said, "You come against me with sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty." David put his hand into the bag, took out a stone, slung it, and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. David triumphed with a sling and a stone.
