The Unlikely Warrior

1 Samuel 17 (NIV)

A young shepherd boy named David watched as the entire Israelite army trembled before Goliath, a giant over nine feet tall. David asked, "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?" He refused King Saul's armor, took his sling and five smooth stones, and ran toward the giant. David declared, "You come against me with sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty." One stone struck Goliath's forehead, and the giant fell. David's courage inspired an entire nation and proved that God's power is greater than any obstacle. Courage is not the absence of fearβ€”it's trusting God in the face of fear.
