Jonah and the City of Nineveh

Jonah didn't want to preach to Nineveh because he knew God was merciful—he feared they might actually repent and receive forgiveness! When they did repent, God relented and did not destroy them. Jonah was angry, but God taught him compassion, saying, "Should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh?" God's forgiveness extends to those we might consider enemies.
