Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man

A deaf and mute man was brought to Jesus. Jesus took him aside, put his fingers into the man's ears, touched his tongue, and looked up to heaven with a deep sigh. He said, "Ephphatha!" which means "Be opened!" At once, the man's ears were opened, his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak plainly. Jesus told them not to tell anyone, but they were astonished and said, "He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak." Jesus opens closed ears and loosens tongues—restoring communication with God.
